My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There was a lot of conversation on what mix of breeds Teddy is. The shelter vets immediately said Bearded Collie...but mixed with what? The town vets came up with a Bearded Collie/Wheaten Terrier mix. This was due to his beautiful coat with the streaks of gold and his definite teddy-bear look that says Bearded Collie with that engaging Wheaten Terrier energy. Teddy also has the beauty and loyalty (as well as general look) of the majestic Bearded Collie.

Teddy is 8 months old and will weigh just about 55 lbs when full-grown. This is a perfect medium size to love running, hiking and winter snowshoeing in the Colorado mountains.

It seems that Teddy has been searching his entire life for a family to love him...he's just never had the good luck for that to happen. A Farfel's rescuer recognized the wonderful potential that is living inside of this young dog. We are committed to finding a dog-savvy home for Teddy that is very loving with clear and consistent boundaries. Teddy truly desires to please...he just has never been given the time and training to be taught his good citizen skills. But no worries...Teddy is so smart that he has the ability to pick up concepts quickly - he just needs to understand what is being asked of him. His family will be one that is overflowing with love for this dog, has a desire to work with a positive reinforcement trainer and can understand that Teddy's a guy who is on his journey learning about the world. This would be a perfect time to introduce Teddy to obedience class. He's a blank slate waiting to be taught the skills of excellent behavior. Teddy may be just a bit shy and confused initially after transport to Colorado...completely understandable considering his start in rural Oklahoma.

We've just gotten a new foster report on Teddy that we would like to share:

I'm fostering the gorgeous Teddy. I'll start by saying that anyone who decides that Teddy is their guy must be prepared for tons of attention every time you go out for a walk or hike (by the way..he's great on a leash but does like to jump on you occasionally as you walk along. This baby just needs training). Everyone wants to pet his amazing coat and always ask what his breed is. While Teddy is recommended as an only dog (which I completely agree with) I let him wander my house with my male boxer today and he was fine with him! However, my boxer Gavin didn't growl or bark or try to be dominant with Teddy. I think Teddy reacts to other dogs to protect himself...he was never given the benefit of being taught proper dog language. Since he's just a puppy, he'll learn this language through training classes and trust in his human and his environment. Teddy's not a huge barker, but does bark at the other dogs when he is in the crate. He doesn't bark at them when they are in the crate and he isn't...all about establishing a healthy pecking order. Teddy saw our cat... the cat hissed at him and he walked way around it. However when the cat ran he wanted to chase it. There's the herding instinct of the Bearded Collie.
Teddy has lived with my young children during his foster with me. He's done so great with them and is anything but aggressive. I wouldn't, however, recommend Teddy to be placed with small children simply because he's a bouncy puppy and could knock kids down simply because he's unaware.
Teddy seems to be completely housebroken and is learning to stay and behave well in a crate. He learned how to use a doggy door with no problem...he's truly a smart dog!
Teddy is a gift to a kind and knowledgeable family where he is the only dog. He has every possibility to be truly great with the right adopter.

Once Teddy bonds, there is nothing in the world that will pull him away from his person or family. His love and gratitude boils over when he knows he's safe in expressing himself. Teddy would be so happy with a family that includes him on hikes, camping and backpacking trips or just a walk on beautiful paths.

We'd like Teddy's family to have the ability to spend good parts of their day with him. He'll be overjoyed with this time and attention. Teddy will blossom as he grows and develops into a great companion and loyal best friend.

Teddy will be arriving on transport in Denver in late January. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested in this beautiful, fun-loving and devoted companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
