Zee is a Dalmatian/Bulldog-mix, female, just about 5 years of age. Zee has been at this shelter and waiting to find a home since July 23, 2014; she has been treated for Giardia and injuries-infected wounds/lacerations/abscesses during her stay. Zee is also Heartworm positive and currently receiving treatment.

Happy and congenial by nature, this social-butterfly is outgoing and friendly with everyone she meets. Calm, confident, mild-mannered, and pretty gentle in spite of her size, Zee trusts easily, learns quickly, and loves to show affection by giving kisses when invited. Highly affectionate and extremely sincere, this very beautiful, sweet-natured girl genuinely loves people and she’s enthusiastic about pleasing them too. Not a dog to spend long periods of time alone, she thrives with companionship, and she will want to be close to her family and included in daily activities. An intelligent canine with a somewhat sly sense of humor, she’ll do her best to engage family members in her playful antics and make them laugh when the mood suits her. Lively, animated, curious, and sometimes playful, Zee needs regular mental stimulation and physical activity to stay fit and happy. She really doesn’t have a lot of stamina though and her modest exercise needs can be met with leashed walks, outdoor romps and explorations, and adventurous outings alongside family members who she will bond deeply with and be fawningly devoted to.

Currently working on her leash skills and good manners training with a Monroe SPCA volunteer, Zee consistently shows herself to be an attentive and obedient canine who’s always quick to please when she knows what’s expected of her; she’s also well-mannered and attuned to her handler when outdoors on leash. Highly-sensitive to tone, Zee responds readily to calm, confident direction (never harsh), and she is praise motivated (but that’s not to say she doesn’t like treats too). Casually-relaxed and easy-to-please, this people-oriented canine would love to find a home with responsible, caring owners willing to provide regular exercise, consistent leadership, lifelong companionship, and plenty of love and attention.

Zee is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a low-active to moderately-active lifestyle and no small dogs. While Zee gets along with compatible, similar-sized dogs she has been properly introduced to, particularly those of the opposite-sex; she isn’t going to tolerate being bullied or challenged by another dog and trouble will most likely ensue if the decision-making is left up to her in such situations. All this really means is she is dog-selective (much like people), and she needs to be in a home where the dogs (followers) are compatible and the humans (leaders) are practicing leadership, follow-through, and common-sense. Zee attends adoption events with us on a regular basis where she is always a people-pleasing, very well-behaved, social-butterfly who loves to greet new people. She’s also crate-trained and very well-mannered when meeting and interacting with children of all ages. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable dogs, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption.

Zee is a Monroe SPCA adoptable dog who currently resides at The Monroe County Animal Control Shelter located at 911 S. Raisinville Rd, Monroe, MI (just south of the fairgrounds). Come meet her during kennel hours Tuesday - Friday, 11:00 am - 3:30 pm; Saturday, 11:00 am - 2:30 pm, closed Sunday, Monday, and National Holidays. All Monroe SPCA dogs available for adoption at the shelter have an adoption fee of $120.00. This fee includes the dog being spayed or neutered, HW negative, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption.
