My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Breed: Pit Bull Terrier/Doberman Pinscher-mix
Sex: Female-sp
Age: 2 years
Size: Medium (Small)
Coat-color: Chocolate/Red and White
Group: Terrier/Working - Companion
Energy level: Moderate

Sweet-natured, easy-going, undemanding, mild-mannered, and aiming to please, this quietly unassuming little charmer will completely melt your heart when you meet her. A sensitive, gentle soul who is always well-mannered, Maple gives telltale signs of her genuine love for people with warm expression and enthusiastic tail-wag (we call it wiggle-butt). Adoring as well as adorable, dainty and petite without being fragile, infectiously happy, expressively affectionate, fawningly devoted, and genuinely warm-hearted, Maple is absolutely and completely a total love-bug.

Readily sharing her affection and kisses upon invitation, she is a people-oriented canine who lives for companionship and close contact, and she welcomes any opportunity to snuggle. Intelligent, active, curious, and gently playful, she needs daily mental stimulation and physical activity to stay happy and healthy. Her exercise needs are pretty modest though and can be met with interactive outdoor romps, regular leashed walks, and adventurous outings alongside family members who she will bond very deeply with. Maple is currently working on her leash skills and good manners training with Monroe SPCA. She’s extremely obedient and quick to please; easy to handle and very attuned to handler.

At intake presenting in overall poor body condition, Maple was emaciated with dull-eyes, sparse-dry coat, and numerous angry pressure sores on her hindquarters and elbows; she also had long and extremely brittle toe-nails, several of them torn and bleeding, and she was bloated with intestinal parasites. Based on her condition and size, she appears to have suffered long-term neglect and insufficient diet. Eating a nutritious diet and getting the care and treatment she needs and deserves, Maple’s physical condition has steadily improved, and she’s now a much happier and healthier canine looking for her forever home. In proportion to her physical condition having improved, Maple has revealed a lively, animated, fun-loving, playful side and this very tolerant little doll definitely appreciates mealtime and treats. She’s really thriving already and to be around her is to just fall madly and deeply in love with her. We certainly have!

Maple is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a calm, low-active to moderately-active lifestyle. Straight-up 100% total-package family companion, Maple is looking for responsible, caring owners willing to provide daily structure, regular exercise, consistent leadership, lifelong companionship, and a whole lot of love and attention. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable dogs, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption.

Maple currently resides at The Monroe County Animal Shelter; she is adoptable through Monroe SPCA. The shelter is located at 911 South Raisinville Road, Monroe, MI 48161 (just south of the fairgrounds). You can meet her during regular shelter hours; Tuesday through Friday, 11:00 am until 3:30 pm, and Saturday, 11:00 am until 2:30 pm. The shelter is closed Sunday, Monday, and all national holidays. All Monroe SPCA dogs available for adoption at the shelter have an adoption fee of $120.00. This fee includes the dog being spayed or neutered, HW negative, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption.
