My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The very first thing that Benny the Doxy/Westie mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In this sad, matted shelter photo, you're not aware of how incredible his coat is and how expressive his very kind eyes are. Benny is a non-shedding guy and with grooming, care and great nutrition, Benny's coat will shine with good health and be cottony-soft.
Life is an adventure for Benny...his adorable little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, Benny is in your lap or next to you on the couch. He's so happy there because his human relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Benny comes from a very tough and challenging Texas shelter. As a result of unkind handling and harsh conditions, Benny might initially be a bit shy. Once he's assured that all is well, he'll snuggle close. This 12 - 24 month old, 18 lb Doxie/Westie mix truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Benny tries so hard to be the best he can be. Benny is such a people dog...he's very engaging and is open to new adventures.
We envision Benny with dog-crazy retirees or a family with older kids (10+ ...no tail pulling or awkward carrying please) who are gentle and loving to a fuzzy best friend. He would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his favorite people. Being a Westie mix , Benny loves being outside for walks and fun as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes. He would love that challenge and is so smart and wanting to please..he would excel. Benny can have a moment of insecurity from the turmoil that has been in his life...a guardian who is present and full of good intention can readily get this great guy past these feelings and let him know he is loved and won't be abandoned. Benny's nature is to be very joyful and in insecure moments, his silly and fun nature ultimately takes over.

Benny will be arriving on transport in Boulder between 1/7 and 1/10/15. If interested in this sweet and kind companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
