My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

✰✰ HUGO 1yr Male #AVAILABLE – For more photos of Hugo please click http://www.norcalbcrescue.org/hugo.html ✰✰

HUGO is a 1-year old Border Collie/Shepherd mix. He has a luxurious, soft brindle coat with golden eyes. He is truly a beautiful dog. HUGO came to us rather timid, not wanting much to do with humans. Right from the start however, HUGO loved our other dogs, particularly the four puppies we were fostering at the time. He would allow the pups to climb all over him, enjoying playtime with them. When the puppies were adopted HUGO engaged our other dogs. New fosters became new playmates as well, and his confidence has grown with each day.

HUGO’s trust with humans has expanded. While he initially alarm barks at strangers, his foster Mom can pet him all over and he comes up for snuffles and kisses. He loves a good belly scratch (aka tummy tickle). HUGO is curious about the cat but always respectful of her. When he accidentally found himself in the pasture with our ducks he came immediately when called leaving the ducks alone.

HUGO finds adventure in most every day as he seems to enjoy new experiences. When his foster mom empties the baby pool used for cooling off the dogs, HUGO can be seen chasing the leading edge of the spilled water as it flows down the patio. Life has become fun for HUGO. HUGO showed us his silly side early on as he gathered every toy, slipper and even the television remote control and brought them back to his crate. Now he is apt to do this hoarding outside with almost anything not nailed down! One garden project resulted in the temporary relocation of three work gloves, a tape measure and the attempted “borrowing” of a cordless drill.

HUGO will need to work on building trust with his new family. We believe HUGO would do best in a household with at least one dog as he clearly relates to, and appears to learn from, other dogs and their interactions with people. HUGO requires an owner who can continue to bring forth this gem of a dog with love and gentleness at an unhurried pace. We feel HUGO is on his way to a great and wonderful future, he just needs to find his forever home.

HUGO is micro-chipped, neutered, heart worm negative and on preventative, and up to date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue and Adoptions (http://www.norcalbcrescue.org/adopt_info.html) and wish to enquire about HUGO, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. If you have an approved adoption application with Border Collie Rescue of Northern California let us know and we will request it be forwarded to us for consideration.

HUGO is being fostered in Auburn in Placer County, California.
