My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This little doll is Pixel and she is a 2 year old Pug/Miniature Pinscher mix. Pixel came to us back in October as an unclaimed stray from a rural pound. We had a sneaky suspicion at the time we took her in that she was pregnant and that came to be true. On Nov 17/13 Pixel gave birth to 6 beautiful and healthy puppies. She was an amazing mom and kept her puppies healthy and happy and passed along her wonderful temperament to them all. The pups have all found forever homes and now it is Pixel’s turn to find her rightful place in a loving forever family. We have had her spayed so there will be no more puppies in her future, she can now enjoy the life of a cherished family pet.

Pixel is lovely. She is adored by her foster family as she is an easy dog to live with; she doesn’t ask for much or make a lot of noise or mess. All she wants is to be loved and cuddled, to sit on the couch next to you, to have some good chew toys to work on, a good walk or two a day, and to sleep at the foot of your bed at night. She will be your faithful companion, always by your side. She is crate trained and house trained. She can be left unattended in the house for a few hours without issue. She is still crated when her foster family is going to be gone a prolonged time, just as a precaution. She is mostly quiet, and is not prone to bothersome barking. She will bark when someone comes to the door or when you come home but is quickly hushed with a “quiet” command. She greets everyone enthusiastically and has never met anyone she doesn’t like a lot. She is a very open and friendly dog who makes everyone smile who meets her as she is just so joyful in her greetings. She is a kisser though and does like to dole out many kisses to her loved ones and new friends. So if you can’t stand a dog kissing you she may not be a good candidate. But if you love a few licks from an adoring dog then Pixel is your girl. Pixel has the enthusiasm and joy for life of the Min Pin but is not as active or energetic, taking on the activity level of a Pug. It’s a nice combination and she is a wonderful dog.

Pixel is being fostered in a home with cats and dogs and she has no issues with any of them. She is often found snuggling with a foster dog or cat for naps. She plays a little bit with the dogs but much prefers to hang out with her people in the house. Outside she runs and explores with the other dogs but doesn’t prefer wrestling or rough housing. She occasionally will chase a cat looking for play but for the most part ignores them and has never been aggressive towards them. Pixel is not being fostered with children but with her kind and happy attitude we feel she would be a great dog for older children. She doesn’t have any possessiveness towards food or toys. She is easy to walk on leash. We walk her on an extend-a-leash and she trots along happily but does not pull. She can keep up a good pace and likes a jaunty walk. She can go as far as you like to go but is not demanding of a lot of exercise. She HATES the freezing cold weather and even with a coat on gets cold quickly so this winter has limited her walks to short trips and she is doing fine. But once the better weather comes she would love to get out for longer adventures. We have taken her to the bush for trail walks and she loved that. She is up for anything as long as she is with her loved ones.

Pixel is great in the car and travels very well. She is small enough (about 20lbs) that she is handy to take along places. She would be a great travel companion for people who like road trips. She would also do well in almost any living situation be it apartment, condo, house etc. As long as she gets her walks to get out of the house and bathroom breaks to relieve herself she is happy. A fenced in yard would be a great convenience but not a necessity. Pixel has basic obedience skills and is well behaved. Her new family will need to attend obedience school with her to reinforce those skills and further her obedience. Just because she is little does not mean she shouldn’t be well trained. We are looking for a family committed to training Pixel well and bringing out the best in our little girl. We could go on forever about how sweet, loving and endearing this little dog is. Her foster family will hate to part with her, but it is time for her to have her permanent family now. If you are looking for a small but not dainty little dog that can be your partner in adventures and snuggle buddy during down time then this is the dog for you. She just wants to be loved and gives so much back in return. Pixel is a gem. We know she will find her forever home soon.

If you think Pixel just may be the dog for you, please check out our website www.pounddog.ca and fill out an application.
