Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Ricky is a Long Hair Dachshund mixed perhaps with Border Collie. He favors Dachshund in looks - long & low to the ground. At 43 lbs., he has started a gradual weight loss program (he loves his food!). Ricky was born about 6/28/10. He's had a rather unstable life, but as forgiving as he is, he just wants to love someone forever, this time. He is so sweet, can be submissive - takes delight in a good belly rub, too. He loves to be loved & will tell you he wants to be petted.
Ricky loves to sit in your lap, to get some TLC (he's so lovable)! He adores playing with other dogs (his BFF at the shelter is Juliet, a Great Pyr.) On nice days he savors being outside to soak up the sun & will often just sit & relax in the sun. Ricky is crate & house trained. He's very smart & is a quick learner. He knows basic commands, such as sit, stay, go potty. He walks well on a leash - not pulling, chasing or barking. He loves to play ball & will do so for as long as you can hang in with him. Happy, funny & very loving are the best words to describe him. Love Ricky & he will wholeheartedly love you back. Ricky is absolutely & totally adorable at our shelter - meeting new people, playing with other dogs & adults - he's great! Once in a home he is affectionate & loves to sit near you & will follow you around the house. He will react quickly if he thinks his family or home is being threatened. He is docile in the home but will need to be properly introduced to strangers, or follow strict management guidelines when guests are over. Ricky would be best in a smaller family with another dog, cat, or older kids to run & play with. Ricky's $150. Adoption Fee is very comprehensive - he is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed, tested negative for Heartworm Disease & current on monthly heartworm/flea/tick preventative.
