Sweet Bark Pit Bull Rescue

Dog rescue in Dallas, PA

Our love of Pit Bulls began in October 2001. I was working for a veterinary hospital at the time and a co-worker and I had a disagreement over whether Pit Bulls were good or bad. I, having worked with many wonderful Pit Bulls, felt it was how the dogs are raised (and of course I was right!!). My co worker disagreed. It was at that moment I knew I had to adopt a Pit Bull.

So my husband and I went to "just look" at Pit Bulls at our local shelter both know full well we would be adopting one. All the way in the back on the right was Dozer, an abused Pit Bull. He was so sad in his cage. He came over when we called to him, but wasn't really interested. So we asked to see him. Well, the dog that came out was the happiest most energetic dog you could ever imagine. We instantly fell in love with him!! And he brightened our lives for the next 8 years!! In fact he changed the way so many people viewed Pit Bulls for the better...just by being his loving, sweet self!! It was that brightness and joy that Dozer bright to us that lead to us adopting other Pitties. And since 2001 we've shared our lives with with mulitple rescued Pit Bulls...all of whom have stolen our hearts and continue to show us just how amazing and loving the breed is!! They absolutely do NOT deserve the reputation they've been given...and our lives prove it everyday!!

Too many Pit Bulls die in shelters everyday and I want to help change that for as many dogs as I can!!

Unfortunately in 2009 we lost Dozer to cancer. And so this rescue is dedicated to him, to his memory, to his amazing spirit!! He made this happen!!

Rescue FAQs

Welcome! Sweet Bark Pit Bull rescue is a not for profit, no kill, foster based organization dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of Pit Bull and Bully breed type dogs. We are located in Northeast, Pa.

We believe that "Saving one dog won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one dog."! That's our motto and being a small, foster based rescue that's what we focus on; Saving one dog at a time.

We also work to save lives by preventing them through our FREE and low cost spay neuter program! Why is this so important? Pit Bull type dogs are currently the most bred dog in the US with a 93% euthanasia ra...te in shelters. At this rate we need to do more then just rescue, we need to prevent more dogs from needing to be rescued! If you'd like to know more about our program please contact katie.sweetbark@gmail.com or sweetbarkpbr@gmail.com

We are currently seeking fosters in the Northeast PA area. If you'd like to make a difference in the life of a homeless dog then please consider fostering...Fostering Save Lives!!! Fostering is one of the single greatest things you can do for a homeless dog! It not only gets them out of the shelter and into safety, but also into a home environment where they can grow to their full potential! Our fosters are the core of our rescue...we ABSOLUTELY can NOT save dogs without them! We can only rescue as many dogs as we have foster homes! So please consider fostering today!
