Rescue FAQs

Many FDM dogs come from kill shelters on their last day. Kill shelters can and do kill owner surrenders without any time given for a chance to be adopted. No dog should die because it's owner is unable to keep the dog. As space and resources allow, FDM takes as many small dogs in danger of going to a kill shelter as possible, whether they be small owner surrenders, small dogs whose owner has died or small starved, injured and dumped strays in need of a Fairy Dogmother. Sometimes referrals to other rescues are possible for dogs too large for FDM. There is no "time limit" at FDM. When the right person, couple or family finds us, ALL Fairy Dogmother's dogs go to wonderful homes...
Fairy Dogmother Rescue is a small dog rescue in north central Alabama dedicated to making good things happen for dogs in need. Out of state adoptions are welcome. Adopters come from all over the southeast and beyond to adopt FDM's dogs. Transport to Virginia and New England is available via PETS, LLC

Additional adoption info

An application to meet or adopt is required before scheduling an appointment or providing our address or directions. Other requirements are approval of application; adoption fees and contract. Adoption fees are tax deductible donations payable via PayPal or check made to Fairy Dogmother Rescue & Rehab, Inc. Cash is accepted also. Fees for long distance adoptions are payable thru PayPal (small service fee applies).

Adoption fees are donations that support the rescue and make it possible to save, house, provide vet care and find homes for as many small dogs as possible. Fees provide for all the 50+ dogs at Fairy Dogmother, not just the dog being adopted. Most fees are $450 (seniors, some big dogs or long timers could be lower). All FDM dogs are safe on premises until adopted, are spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, maintained on monthly heartworm and flea preventive.
There is no time limit for adoption.
